While searching for a definition of family I came across a few that seemed rather factual:
Family:
- a group consisting of parents and children living together in a household.
- a group of people related to one another by blood or marriage:"friends and family can provide support"
Both of these can be found on google but while searching I noticed on the second definition there is a statement "friends and family can provide support"
Which brings me to the topic of family, In no mention friends were not considered family, as that may have been true in the past. Today, we view those who SUPPORT us as family that can include blood family, friends and even those who are educators and have acted as an anchor to individuals.
Family should not be defined as a group of people living In a house together, or of blood or marriage but of the relationships that are developed with others.
I'm sure that more than 80% of the world's population views friends and those who have provided support to us that we have formed some kind of bond with is our family.
The term should not be used to define those of blood, but of those with connection and unity to one another.
I've heard and read many articles and stories of heartache from people because their "blood" family left them or mistreated them in someway and they were in disbelief because it's not a normal thought that relatives would screw you over. But that is the sad cruel world we live in and is why many of us take comfort and warmth from friends and those who support us in the long run. They should be called family just as much as a brother, sister, mother or father.
I hope that this offers some outlook into the role of support that can come from those around us.
Thank you
